Hilton University
All team members and managers have access to Hilton University our award winning e-learning facility that offers a wide range of learning from management skills and personal development courses to Hilton specific training in systems, processes and products.
You can join a virtual classroom session for a short training event without leaving your hotel or you can work with a top international hotel school to learn about your preferred area of expertise.
Brand Education
Throughout your career you will be learning as part of your role. Firstly via our unique Passport to Hilton training and then using our brand and service standards e-learning materials to ensure you know how to deliver the service our guests expect.
Vocational Qualifications
Hilton currently offers nationally recognised vocational qualifications at Level 2 and 3 in addition to full apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are training programmes for young people aged between 16 and 24 who have already left full time education or are already in employment.
They provide a combination of on and off-the-job training to develop skills and knowledge required within the industry. An apprenticeship is made up of a NVQ, plus key skills and other technical certificates that are specific to the hospitality industry.

Leadership 1
This 9 month career development programme is designed for Team Members and new Team Leaders to help them learn the skills they need to be an effective Supervisor in their hotel or business function Skills development is supported through work based learning and 12 half day workshops.
Leadership 2
This 9 month career development programme helps Team Leaders prepare for their next role as an Assistant Department Head or equivalent and develops management skills and business knowledge through 5 days of residential learning plus project work and mentor support.
Leadership 3
Leadership 3 provides the essential Hilton management skills needed to be a high performing Head of Department. The 5 day programme is required for all new Heads of Department as well as being offered to high potential Supervisors and Assistant Heads of Department.
Shine 1
This is the first of the Hilton Management Development Programmes in our talent development suite. It is intended for high potential Heads of Department to help prepare them for Director of Operations or Director of Business Development role in one of our hotels.
Shine 1 is run internationally and usually has participants from both the UK & Ireland and Europe, Middle East & Africa, providing excellent networking and learning opportunities.
The Programme lasts 9 months and provides a blend of learning methods including virtual classrooms, 360 degree feedback, a 5 day Core Values Workshop and 3 Development Centres. It also has mentoring by a senior manager, project work and on the job learning.
Shine 2
The Shine 2 Programme is intended for high potential hotel Directors and will prepare them for their first General Manager role. It is a high profile internal career development Programme and attracts executive level speakers from Hilton and beyond.
Over a 9 month period participants will work on an individual project, join the group for virtual classrooms, attend a 5 day GM Orientation programme and a 4 day Development Centre. They also receive mentoring, project work, feedback sessions and on the job learning.
Chef Apprenticeship Programme
Hilton's Chef Apprenticeship Programme is a 2-year training and development scheme which is designed to grow our future Head Chefs and allow you to 'earn while you learn'.
Join as an Apprentice Chef and on successful completion of your apprenticeship, you should be ready for a position as Demi-Chef de Partie. If you have enthusiasm, the right attitude towards hard work, enthusiasm and having a passion to succeed, your career with Hilton could be about to begin.
- During the 2 year Chef Apprenticeship Programme, you will learn through a combination of on-and-off-the-job education and training.
- You will work towards a mix of separate qualifications, including a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), a technical certificate, and key skills (the essential skills you must have to support you in your job including communication, language and IT)
- You will be supported by a Head Chef mentor and will be involved in a wide range of industrial related activities.
When you have completed the Chef Apprenticeship Programme successfully you will have a career development review to discuss your aspirations and job opportunities within your hotel, the region and throughout the country.

SPARK - Management Development Programme
Join as a Supervisor and at the end of 2 years you will be ready for your first Departmental Head role. The SPARK Programme is a hotel based management programme, so you go into a real role from Day One.
If you are a graduate, have a diploma, hotel school or equivalent qualification, or have good hospitality experience and a real passion and enthusiasm for the industry, your career with Hilton could be about to begin.
- During the 2 years of the Programme you will carry out at least two roles within your chosen specialty e.g. Rooms, F & B or Revenue
- You will also be supported by a senior management mentor and you will be involved in a wide range of milestone projects and activities.
- Meanwhile your formal learning will follow our defined Leadership and Management Programmes and of course your job and technical skills will be acquired as you progress through your career path.
When you have successfully completed the SPARK Programme you will have a career development review to discuss your aspirations and the job opportunities within your region and throughout the country.
